College Projects
RHWE (Rural Horticultural Work Experience) and ELP (Experiential Learning Program) were the most formative experiences of my undergraduate journey. They taught me what leadership looks like outside the classroom. (full-width)
Rural Horticultural Work Experience (RHWE)
Under RHWE, our batch had to go to a village, live with farmers, understand their challenges, and give them solutions. As the leader of my group, I quickly realized that the farmers were skeptical of us. Outsiders had visited before, made promises, and never returned or cheated them.
So instead of making them promises or lecturing them, I sat with them in their fields. I talked to them and let them test my knowledge. I showed up every day, I listened more than I asked, and slowly, trust developed. The farmers opened up and we gave them demonstrations and workshops to support crop cultivation and promote sustainable agriculture. It was my first lesson that impact begins with trust.
Experiential Learning Program (ELP)
Under ELP, our batch was divided into groups of 6 students each. Every group had to grow vegetables, manage production, and handle sales (basically running a small agricultural enterprise).
Our team produced healthy, market-ready crops but struggled to find buyers. I took the matter into my own hands and carried a sack of vegetables to a nearby town, and sold the first batch for ₹840. Seeing that, my team followed my footsteps, and our team ended up becoming the highest-earning team in our batch. That’s when I learnt: If you want your team to act, you must act first.
